GMO Corn – The Poison Plant Everyone Eats

Just about everyone loves corn, especially fresh corn-on-the-cob in summer. Well, maybe “corn-aholics” ought to research the effects of modern GMO corn before taking another bite. Don’t pop that corn yet!

Jerry Rosman was a pig and cattle farmer, who now is an ORGANIC farming consultant as a result of losing his animal-breeding farming business due to GMO corn feedstock interfering with animal husbandry and reproduction—baby piglets and calves.

Rosman realized that the GM corn, actually bt-corn, he was feeding his hogs was responsible for sows experiencing false pregnancies. That led to his eventually losing the swine and cattle breeding and farming business. In his ah-ha moment, after realizing what was going on, he said, “If this is happening to our hogs, what’s happening to humans?”

If that’s what happened to Mr. Rosman, shouldn’t everyone be concerned about GMO bt-corn, which is an ingredient in just about every mass-produced food product sold in the USA?

New Zealand Group Seeks Zero Tolerance for Pesticide Residues In Baby Food

A petition seeking zero tolerance for pesticide residues in baby food was discussed Friday by a committee of the New Zealand parliament, but members of the Primary Production Committee reportedly took no action on it.

The Safe Food Campaign (SFC), which is sponsoring the petition, noted that the European Commission has mandated no detectable pesticide levels for baby food in EU countries.

“I am sure I am talking on behalf of every parent in New Zealand when I urge the government to step up and protect our babies from dangerous pesticides that are currently present in baby food,” said Alison White of the SFC.

The petition was submitted on behalf of more than 4,300 New Zealanders and urged the parliament to “match the European Union directives that processed infant and young children’s food must not contain individual pesticide residues greater that 0.01ppm (mg/kg).” It was originally presented one year ago Friday.

Coffee, Tea, Or Diarrhea? How To Handle Food On Flights

Airplane food has been under scrutiny for food safety breaches. But even the best prepared food can become a vector of disease when it is consumed using contaminated hands. Airline travel exposes people to extremely germ-infested conditions, making the inflight meal one of the most hazardous aspects of flying.

Besides the exposure in airports to international germs, the aircraft itself is a reservoir of bacteria and viruses. Thousands of people touch armrests and headrests, especially the reclining button. But the most infectious surface is the food tray, which people open and close with dirty hands, sneeze on, eat on, and talk over.

China Toughens Up Food Safety Laws By Adopting New Amendments

In the wake of several high-profile food safety scandals, China’s lawmakers have adopted tougher amendments to bolster the country’s existing food safety law. The changes, effective Oct. 1, 2015, will add 50 new articles, or about half again what the previous law contained.

Many of the new amendments address infant formula regulations and the online food market, which has seen rising popularity in China. The changes also set tougher penalties for violations, according to news reports, and are the first changes to the law since it was originally adopted in 2009.

Consumer Reports: Tests Find 60 Percent Of Frozen Shrimp Contaminated With Bacteria

A new Consumer Reports (CR) study released Friday found that 60 percent of 342 samples of frozen shrimp it tested contained Salmonella, Vibrio, Listeria, or E. coli, and 2 percent tested positive for the superbug MRSA (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus).

For its new report, “How Safe is Your Shrimp?,” CR researchers bought 284 raw and 58 cooked shrimp samples for testing last March in 27 cities across the country from retailers such as Walmart, Kroger, Albertsons, Costco, Fry’s Marketplace, Hy-Vee and Sprouts Farmers Market. CR didn’t test fresh, never-frozen shrimp since U.S. consumers don’t buy much of that.
